This is an issue which reverse the ladderized program in criminology initiated by HEIs & TESDA.
I heard that CHED is considering a paradigm shift in our higher educational system.
According to a reliable source, CHED would like to align Philippine education on the international settings. So that the set up would mean that all for year courses be added with one more year to make it 5. If this will push through, paano kaya haharapin ng CHED ang issue na to? am very very sure, mabigat ang resistance especially among parents because of the financial implications.

So, to me, i disagree on this move. Maybe instead of adding one more year in college, i think there are other ways, lets think think think  ;D

sinong gumawa ng bulungbulungan na yan at patahimikin na forever and ever! LOL

naku! 5 years?! why? ang dami ng specialization sa criminology bakit pa gagawing five years, that could have been time used on choosing a career or expertise in the field of criminology, add the fact that among the job opportunities available, one chooses the law enforcement profession under the PNP which entails one year training. so if 5 years ang crim, 6 years ang gugugulin mo sa pagaaral for a PO1 slot? they better make this deal palatable, haha, like give incentives for licensed criminologists in different fields before they make this deal through. or else wala nang mageenrol nyan, nakakaloka, parang medicine na kinuha ko sa dating nyan bago ako makakuha ng field of expertise! LOL

Matt, at the moment i would reserve my comment on the issue pending availability of a formal papers on the issue to base my comment/recommendations. Do you have any background papers on this? Careers in Criminology is so wide. Do I really need five years to be a Security Manager/Supervisor, if I can't make it to the police? Who are the proponents of this? What are their rationale? Criminology enrollment, at the moment is down because of severe economic conditions( our goverment is still on the denial mode on this),hence, the timing is not good.

This is an issue that came out after 100 days of the new CHED chair when he called for all heads/presidents of HEIs in a conference last Nov 7, 2008. Wait and see

naman naman naman!!!

why not cut on the less important subjects? consult the industry kung ano talaga hanap nila sa isang crim graduate at un ang ibigay sa BS Crim curriculum para naman di na masyado need ang training after the 4-year degree. dadagdagan pa ng 1 year, ano naman kaya ang idadagdag? sobra na tlaga ha. abuso na! bka magrally na naman ako nyan. hay naku... nabobobohan ako sa sistema tlga.

as a criminologist I absolutely disagree...malaking kalukohan yan...if that will be impose i think its time to break our silence for the sake of the incoming generations that have the desire to be a part in this field....majority should be heard...thanks for alarming us matt, never lose a single sight on this matter update us always so that we can make a move to put a big (.) on this issue...
Its a very Dangerous thing to know, we know everything..

Re: 5-Year Program in Criminology: Agree/Disagree? 3 years, 4 months ago #4636

for me i also dis agree...instead of adding oneyear...just give criminology credit as future pnp...luging lugi na nga tayo sa pnpa eh...supposed to be dapat wala na lang criminology course eh...dapat pnpa nalang ang meron...hay...pati sa application in pnp sobrang lugi natin...all 4 years course pwede mag apply..sana maka create cla ng bagong batas na criminology ang priority...lalo na sa quota....hanggang di nauubusan ng crim sa pila wala dapat isalpak na non criminology....but our system is PALAKASAN>>>sa huli tayo pang mga crim ang naiiwan.....

ched should look beneath the consequences...di lahat ng naiisip tama...crisis,poverty financial problem y we always take the risk...enough is enough..this issue is non sense at all....instead of doing the 5 years program concentrate more on how to make the Criminology course indespensble as PNPA.....im not asking for the same benefits which PNPA has...im asking for the same respect, good reputation, good smell and look...we are not just a criminology.....We are A Criminology!!!

yourt right wiccan,,i was so dismayed to know that until now the palakasan system is still practiced by the pnp....and the criminology is taken for granted i know that there are so many deserving criminologist scattered everywhere and did not given the chance to feel the real life to impart their knowlege and so as to enjoy their profession...speaking of additional 1 year in Criminology i"ll go for that if they will finance the students as well as to provide them everything their needs in pursuing their career and give them assurance that after graduation all the law enforcement agencies doors  are widely open and they can start to work..if that would be happen i will submit myself and go back to my university to voluntarily enroll again for 1 year..
Its a very Dangerous thing to know, we know everything..

Re: 5-Year Program in Criminology: Agree/Disagree? 3 years, 3 months ago #4674

Its totally ridiculus from the CHED to make a 5-year program in Criminology education.Absolutely it is a financial problem will be an issue here.Do you know that is a business for the benefits of schools and Ched .Why in united states they allowed an online education and here we dont? co's students will divert on online studies instead of going to school. Which is more convinient and financially affordable. Instead of additional program why they dont give something favorable to the criminologist especially an employment assistance which i believed the best contribution to us.

thanks

tagal ko na pala di nakalog-in... sorry guys.. hirap ako maglihi. after 11 yrs, naka-isa pa ang criminologist in the house

anyway, hindi matatapos ang issue about this 5-yr criminology course that the govt is proposing (although hindi lang nman crim ang natititigan nila, pati Education eh...). All Criminologists must come together and let your voice be heard in a forum aside from RKM files (walang taga CHED dito). Why not elevate this matter to the Senate? Let us admit that it is still the politicians who have the say in issues such as this. All we can do is educate them regarding the advantages and disadvantages of adding another year to BS Crim, the lack of serious employment opportunity for Crim grads, etc. I know you have good leaders among your group. PCAP has to get its act together and be strong in pushing up the interest of its members.

Wag nyo pabayaan na mawalang-saysay ang profession nyo. I really admire Criminologists but I am saddened by the fact that you guys are overshadowed by non-crim grads in terms of employment. Bakit mo pa nga naman pahihirapan ang sarili mo mag-Crim kung pwede naman pala mag-apply sa possible work mo ang Education, Agriculture, Computer, Business, or Engineering graduate? Tapos another year more? For what purpose?

Yan lang naman ay mga punto na nabanggit na ng iba pero inemphasize ko lang.. Salamat!

hello damas & caballeros

hi sir....

Being a dean in the college of criminology, i think its time that we in the philippines adopt the international setting for us to meet the international demand as well. the logic is very simple if we can mold the student to be more competitive than our traditional way of practice as of now.. better... nothing to loose... time? nevermind... as long as your studying its not a waste of time.... Money? never mind... education is a matter of investment... in banking principle investment is risk taking to gain interest.... effort? its ok we need to exert effort while living...

thanks. Ergo>>> I agree.

Before prescribing a medicine, do a thorough examination of the patient first... What's the diagnosis? Does the Criminology education really need another year? Or is it just an over-the-counter medicine being abused by a self-medicating patient?

I had the chance to the briefing made by the CHED Chaiman Emmanuel Angeles regarding the plan just recently.

In his presentation,  Roadmap to Quality Higher Education in the Philippines or The New Philippine Education Highway, the Phillippines is one of the two countries that lacks 2 years in basic education. He said that making the courses five years would also allow the country to conform to international agreements such as the Bologna and Washington Accords that sets the standards for such courses.

The adoption of 10+2+3 formula in reforming the country's education system of which 10 years will be the elementary and secondary education plus two years for pre-university and three years for baccalaureate, which will take effect by AY 2010-2011.

Ched said all five-year degree courses with Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) licensure exams will be covered by the 10+2+3 scheme. These include such courses as accountancy, architecture, education, nursing, engineering, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and pharmacy.

As i can see, eventually, all other course will follow including those under criminal justice education.

Consultation goin on...so we'll just see .. 8)

hay naku!!!

another year will be adding to the proposed bill of the CHED person...????

how could it be? i cannot imagine my self having a five year studies with a course of Criminology.. I think it is very unreasonable.... can they just be let the 4 years as it is?, it is very disgusting..

what kind of system they want to implement? I think their attention should be focus in seeking for the betterment of the students... and upgrade their curriculum and not adding into the burden of the parents of the students...
I am not degrading the BSCRIM education but I guess four years is already enough... enough to teach the students.... It is not the days and years that matters, but it is the quality of instructors in educating their students. They are the prime giver of the knowledge of the students, once they will say it right, the student will always rely on them... Though they will add another year, but if the teaching system will be still the same, then their is no progress that we are awaiting out of that supposing 5year course of bscrim... hahahhaha... can they give us a great reason that will be accepted in the trial... kung baga, admissible reason in court.. huhuhuhu....

sorry for it... but please stop this nonsense system.....

plssss!!!!!!

we are at the mercy of ever-thinking CHED people who are as always experimenting on the educational system of the country. They are trying to adapt to the international standards without coming up with something that considers the culture of our people. Why not come up with a scheme that is ourS? Japan has its own system that works because it was defined based on their needs. Tayo? forever nangongopya sa iba. Maganda din naman ang may standard pero tingnan muna bakit hindi nagwork ang 4-year system and find the points of weakness. After nito, anong sistema naman kaya? 6-year system? :-\
