This is the only sensible portal for us Criminologist in Pinas to make intelligent contribution to advance our profession. I appeal to one and all to make this at par with the other website found elsewhere in the world. Try visiting some Indian criminology portals. You will be amazed by the high level discussion they have about the latest in Criminology profession. Anybody want to suggest how best we can implement the one semester OJT with any criminal jusice agency in the country so that the students get maximum benefits from this as provided for in CHED MO 21, Series 2005. Some who already have an approved POI may want to post it so we can benchmark with them. Also, if your school have an existing MOA with any agency for purposes of OJT, please post them here.

sir junsy and everyone!! hi! im back! namiss ko kayo...

yeah i agree sir junsy.. we need to start in our own classrooms if we want to produce crim graduates who are sensible, articulate, and participative in discussions such as this forum we have here. It is true that many of our crim students here in Palawan have limited skills in the use of the internet since many of them came from farflung barangays without internet access. We teachers could facilitate their learning if we will find ways for them to refer to the internet from time to time for their research works.

Our classrooms could also be th venue for rich discussions and even debates so we could encourage critical thinking. We must make use of higher order thinking skills. This could be made possible by promoting evaluative questions in our quizzes and other exams.

If we could integrate these simple suggestions, we can expect more crim graduates to participate in discussions pertaining to criminology...

wow, its nice to have you back mamdulz, been wondering if you were pirated by other forum sites. LOL

haaay, students are followers, they comply with what was asked of them to comply with, ergo, if changes should be made, it comes from the instructors.

lack of books, if there are any, they have conflicting information, most of them are not in the Philippine setting because they are copied from foreign books.

professors often put limits to the student's capacity to hold information. say, i would finish an entire semester with 3 handouts, one for prelim one for midterms and one for finals. my brain neurons feel insulted that professors think this is the only material my brain could absorb for 4months! and then of course there are still students who manage to fail, what shall we do with them? frankly, i want them shot. haha!

i don't know what should be done, i just know and i have this eerie feeling that there is somethings wrong. mamdulz and sir junsy seem to have a lot of plans, i hope you guys can make it happen.. as for now, i will be too busy preparing for the board exam to clutter your brains with my cynicisms and observations... ;D

ay somethings wrong...wrongness ang grammar...please forgiveness.  ;D

anyway, ang discussion bang ito ay query kung ano ang mas effective mode of instructions? forum or classrooms? effective parin ang may human touch siyempre,, haha! i like forums but, they are not the only source of information. mas maganda parin ang classroom, supplementary lang ang mga ito, technology is good. but we should not depend on it too much, its like making me choose between man and machine. sandali ang layo ng comparison ko, kayo na humanap ng connection. :

This forum is like a classroom, that every idea or opinion should be respected. In the process of learning, both can be sources of knowledge. Foruming is also fun because you can meet sensible and sensless people who will end up to be your friend, even if sometimes imagery

i think there's no need to choose between these two (forum or classroom). one would eventually complement the other. let us strengthen the basic skills that crim students would need in order to effectively participate in fora and classroom discussion- that is, communication skills.

i agree, however, good communication skills is not confined in grammar alone, or ability to express oneself in english. How do we teach tact? diction? using the right words, some people say it's just semantics but i really believe, good communication skills is not just the ability to get a message across, good communication skills is the ability to be understood even when people refuses to understand you, in short selling. haha! it is a complex mixture of tact, consideration, listening, negotiating and firmness. in short, using the right approach. As for example, pumunta ako sa police station, hindi naman dapat magaling sa english ang pulis para masabi kong he has good communication skills, if pumunta ako doon, may complaint ako, and he was able explain the course of investigation to me, what they are doing and what they plan to do, then he has good communication skills. ngayon kung ako, grade 3 lang ang natapos ko at hindi makaintindi ng ingles, tapos ininglis inglis ako ng pulis, abay poor siya in communication skills.. lagpak!
