I'm so amazed by so much hullaballo on PACUCOA accreditation of the various courses offered by a particular private university or college. Looking at their standard, they're so ideal on private schools yet they close their eyes on state U/C offering the same course, including Criminology. Mr. SS do you have any idea which Criminology program/offering/schools  had been accredited? Am still working for my school accreditation. What are the benefits of your school being accredited and disincentives ,if not?

Re: PAASCU/PACUCOA Accreditation 3 years, 6 months ago #4484

sir junsky...its good you were able to create a thread on this in here. I just added PAASCU into the title so that the discussion will be in a wider coverage.

yes sir, i know a lot of HEIs granted with level I, II, III and IV. Most of which are under PACUCOA since PACUCOA is the primier to have the tool for the BS Crim program accreditation. The other accrediting body available (which i think preferable because of its international recognition) is PAASCU, now that they have a better tool.

Accreditation is good...let me discuss this in details later...kain muna ako..he he ;D

Re: PAASCU/PACUCOA Accreditation 3 years, 6 months ago #4486

obviously, the main reason for accreditation is raising the standard of excellence in education.
even before Y2K in Philippine higher education, accreditation was already a trend especially to private schools....
For the criminology program...accreditation has been an interest due to the dynamic competition of the HIEs offering crim...to mention some schools granted accreditation status in the program criminology...

University of Luzon - Level IV PACUCOA...now working for Center for Excellence
University of Baguio and University of Cordilleras - Level II PACUCOA...now working for reaccreditation and Level III....
CICOSAT La union - Naga Colleges Foundation, University of Manila - Level II accreditated...PACUCOA
Mostly NCR, and the rest of Luzon and the big schools in Visayas-Mindanao HEIs offering Crim are also accrediated level I/II...at marami pa sir...

PAASCU is now working for accrediting BS CRIM program too...training for accreditors as far as i was informed will be on Dec 10-11, 2008  ;D...tas...PAASCU is looking forward for its primier BSCrim accredited school..

in terms of benefit..marami talaga...
here are some:

1. accreditation is the basis for deregulation status and application for university status...
2. institutions granted deregulated status are exempt from the issuance of Special Order (S.O.), free from monitoring and evaluation activities of CHED, entitlement to grant of subsidies and other financial incentives/assistance from the CHED, privilege to determine and prescribe their curricular programs to achieve global competence, authority to grant Honoris Causa to those deserving, per pertinent provisions of existing CHED issuance on conferment of honorary degrees.
3. and more more more... ;D

Thanks Mr SS for this Troop Information and Education (TI&E). This are very relevant informations needed by most of us who not conversant of many policies affecting our department. I just hope we will also be qualified to attent the PAASCU meeting on November 28,2008 at Greenhills. BTW I signed in at their websites to be able to get the latest from their oprations.

Re: PAASCU/PACUCOA Accreditation 3 years, 6 months ago #4516

Another important information regarding moving towards quality education...which carries an affect on the criminology profession is -

The IQuAME (INSTITUTIONAL QUALITY ASSURANCE THROUGH MONITORING
AND EVALUATION)

Many of our comdares in the profession are not aware of this. This is CMO 15 series of 2005 as it is hereby linked:
www.ched.gov.ph/policies/Digitized%20CMO...05/CMO_15_S_2005.pdf

...so far...this is what we have

www.ched.gov.ph/policies/CMO2007/cmo_58_s2007.pdf

Re: PAASCU/PACUCOA Accreditation 3 years, 6 months ago #4517

and the RQAT too...as per CMO 53 s 2005...
CHED organized its Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) for various educational
courses including CRIMINOLOGY...whose task is to visit Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the region to evaluate the compliance of the schools to the CHED requirements. The RQAT then recommends to CHED whether or not the Government Permit and/or Recognition should be granted to the requesting HEIs. Evaluation of these schools are based on the given set of criteria
as defined under this CMO...

Now, question is...with all these quality ek ek systems and monitoring...how do we rate the quality of our criminology graduates? Do we base it on the results of board exams?... ;D

Again Thanks SS. In response to your question, can you get a data from PRC how those graduates of accredated criminology schools fared in the last three board examinations. I mean this will validate my assumption that having your school accredated doesn't guarantee more graduates passing the board exams. Look at the top ten in the last board result. How many of these schools were already accredated by PACUCOA/PAASCU.

sir junsy- sir ss talks here... alternative title ng thread na to... hehehe...

butt in:

what do you know naman abt AACCUP? i heard our VPAA mention that the instrument used by AACCUP in most of the courses is the same instrument daw to be used sa Criminology. As what i've learned from the discourse of sir SS, it seems that it is on the contrary. Another opinion i heard was, the CMO for Crim daw will be the basis for the accreditation. Ano ba talaga?...

butt in din:
what i know is this:

AACUP is the accrediting body for CHARTERED colleges and universities such as state colleges/universities while PAASCU and PACUCOA are for private institution. Kanya kanyang tool ang ginagamit actually but the target is the same - on QUALITY of instruction, faculty, admin, lab, physical facilities, student services, library, community extension services.

hmmm, butt in me muna.

What about the IQuAME? why are there only few  institutions take it? thenk u thenk u

Re: PAASCU/PACUCOA Accreditation 3 years, 5 months ago #4598

Matt, the IQuAME is CHED's arm to classify school interms of quality assessment. Maganda rin kaya lang its a little bit new compared to PAASCU and other private accrediting bodies. Kaya siguro only few went into it.

But, one good thing for IQuAME is this, malaki ang points neto if you apply for Autonomaous Status of your school compared to ISO certification and Accreditation.

I move for all schools to take IQuAME. Its free
