Crimes committed are related to the social class of the individuals. Political crimes( assassinations, corruption, malversation, etc..)  are committed by the ruling class while petty crimes( theft, robbery) are committed by the lower classes. But this is only one of the causation of crimes.

i agree with sirchris, there are many causes of criminality and socially speaking what has been said is just part of it. Unemployment really brings people to think committing crimes. As it said "a hungry stomach drives one to steal"

yes, infact according to general statistics in thirdworld countries, the under priviledged and the unemployed are the ones mostly convicted for crimes directly related to their social standing in society.

talking about organized crimes, this is another story. This has something to do with people in the upper class status and professional criminals associated with each other, who are driven by plain greed, discontentment or even more of a materialistic behavior. with their influence and power, they can manipulate, mobilize mostly the underclass for their individual or group interests.

this only shows that everyone in society are prone to engage in criminality, regardless of social class. except that the lower class and the underpriviledge, the unemployed are basically with the highest level of criminal involvment.

oh yeah, the cartels most often caught only in the movies...why? because the government is the biggest cartel of all time  ;D

It is sad to admit but mukwaking is correct that some (most but not all naman siguro) in the echelon in the government are committing crimes but not the gov't. per se.
